About MiMAKi UMEBOSHI

MiMAKi UMEBOSHI is a premium Japanese sour plum brand. Our Umeboshi is produced in a factory operating for over 100 years in the town of Minabe, located in Wakayama, Japan. The plums used in MiMAKi UMEBOSHI are Kishu Nanko-Ume, the finest quality plums, and only the highest A-grade plums are selected. Umeboshi contains many nutrients that have great health benefits, and it is cherished as a daily health food in Japan. Umeboshi is so delicious that it can be used for a variety of dishes.

MiMAKi UMEBOSHI is a family-run company based in Japan.

“Mimaki” was founded in Yokohama, Japan in the 1980s as a wholesale company for the Wakayama-produced premium Umeboshi called “Kishu-Nanko-Ume”.

Since my childhood, I had been helping with the "Mimaki" business, and I eventually took it over from my aging father, the original owner. I rebranded the business, modernizing the design while preserving its legacy, and relaunched it as the “MiMAKi” we know today. I decided to keep the original name “Mimaki,” which my father had created. He formed the name by combining the first letters of my mother Mitsue, my sister Machiko, and myself, Kyoko — “Mimaki”. With his deep love for our family, my father built this brand, and now, carrying on his passion, "MiMAKi" has embarked on a new journey with me.

In 2024, I launched "MiMAKi UMEBOSHI USA" in New York, introducing our Umeboshi to the US market. The responses from those who tasted our products exceeded my expectations, and I was truly delighted by the positive feedback.

Umeboshi has been loved in Japan for over 1,000 years and is known for the saying, “One umeboshi a day keeps the doctor away.” While it is a staple in Japan, I want to share this incredible food with people around the world.

Our journey into the global market has just begun. Beyond showcasing the delicious taste of Umeboshi, I want to highlight its health benefits. We chose New York as our starting point because of its health-conscious consumers. We aim to expand across the U.S. and eventually to Europe. I hope Umeboshi will find its place in various cuisines, including French cuisine, and become a beloved ingredient worldwide.
